Founded in 1981, 10,000 Maniacs is an American alternative rock band that has established itself as a significant force in rock music. The band released nine studio albums, six EPs, and five live albums throughout their career. Their most notable period of success occurred between 1987 and 1993, during which they released four albums that charted in the top 50 in the United States. These albums included In My Tribe in 1987, Blind Man's Zoo in 1989, Our Time in Eden in 1992, and the live album MTV Unplugged in 1993. After MTV Unplugged was recorded but before its official release, original lead singer and songwriter Natalie Merchant departed the band to focus on her solo career. Despite this significant change, the remaining members chose to continue performing and recording as 10,000 Maniacs.
