A Sense of Purpose is the ninth studio album by Swedish heavy metal band In Flames, released in Japan on 26 March 2008, followed by North America on 1 April and Europe on 4 April 2008. The album marked a significant shift in the band's sound, as it was their first release with no death metal hallmarks whatsoever. It debuted at number one on the official Swedish album chart. The album is notable for being the final In Flames release featuring founding guitarist Jesper Strömblad, who was the last original member of the band at that time. Strömblad quit in February 2010, which ended the lineup that had remained together since the band's Colony era. The song "Disconnected" from the album became available as downloadable content for the video game Guitar Hero World Tour on 21 May 2009.
