AnDy Darling was an American actress and Warhol superstar who became a pioneer for transgender visibility. Rising to fame in New York City's underground film scene during the 1960s and 1970s, Darling starred in the Andy Warhol-produced films Flesh in 1968 and Women in Revolt in 1971. Her distinctive glamorous persona, inspired by Old Hollywood aesthetics, earned her recognition from prestigious photographers including Cecil Beaton and Richard Avedon. Darling also performed in Tennessee Williams' play Small Craft Warnings in 1972, showcasing her talents beyond film. Known for her candid wit and striking presence, she became a muse to notable rock and roll musicians of the era, including the Rolling Stones and Lou Reed, who referenced her in his musical work. Darling's contributions to entertainment and her groundbreaking visibility as a transgender performer left a significant mark on culture during her lifetime. She passed away from lymphoma at the age of 29 in 1974.
