Originating in 2007 as a solo project by Tosin Abasi, Animals as Leaders developed into an American instrumental progressive metal band based in Washington D.C. Since 2012, the group has maintained a consistent lineup featuring Abasi on lead guitar, Javier Reyes on rhythm guitar, and Matt Garstka on drums. The band emerged as a prominent force within the djent scene and released their self-titled debut album through Prosthetic Records in 2009. Over the following years, they established themselves as innovative musicians in the progressive metal genre, releasing Weightless in 2011, followed by The Joy of Motion in 2014, The Madness of Many in 2016, and Parrhesia in 2022. Their instrumental approach and technical proficiency have garnered significant attention within the metal community.
