At The Gates

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers, At the Gates formed in Gothenburg in 1990. The band became a major force in establishing the Gothenburg Sound of the mid-1990s alongside Dark Tranquillity and In Flames. During their initial run, they released four studio albums before disbanding in 1996. Their final album from that era, Slaughter of the Soul, released in 1995, is considered a landmark record in the Swedish death metal scene. After a thirteen-year hiatus, the band reunited in 2007 for what was planned as a one-off tour in 2008. The reunion proved permanent, and At the Gates went on to release three additional studio albums: At War with Reality in 2014, To Drink from the Night Itself in 2018, and The Nightmare of Being in 2021.
