About

There are several bands that have performed under the name Avatar. The most prominent is the Swedish metal band formed in Gothenburg in 2001 by drummer John Alfredsson and vocalist Christian Rimmi, initially called Lost Soul. After multiple lineup changes, the band now consists of John Alfredsson on drums, Johannes Eckerström on vocals, Tim Öhrström and Jonas Jarlsby on guitars, and Henrik Sandelin on bass. Avatar is also the name of a Hungarian hard rock group established in 2006 and published by Hammer Records, having released two studio albums and a demo. Additionally, Avatar is an early Belgian symphonic black metal band. The name was also used by Savatage before 1983, when the Florida-based rock band was forced to change its name due to copyright issues. Savatage, formed in 1979 by Jon and Criss Oliva, had recorded demos and released an EP under the Avatar name before combining "Savage" and "Avatar" to create their new identity in September 1983.
