Formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1999, Becoming the Archetype is an American extreme metal band that became part of the new wave of American heavy metal. The group released six albums through Solid State Records, establishing themselves as notable contributors to the metal genre. Their 2008 album Dichotomy marked a significant chart achievement, selling approximately 2,300 copies in its first week in the United States according to Nielsen Soundscan and debuting at No. 18 on the Top New Artist Albums chart, which recognizes best-selling albums by new and developing artists who have never reached the top 100 of the Billboard 200. Following the release of I Am in 2012, the band entered an indefinite hiatus but ultimately reunited in 2022 with the lineup consisting of Jason Wisdom, Seth Hecox, and Brent "Duck" Duckett.
