About
Formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California, Black Flag is an American punk rock band widely considered one of the first hardcore punk pioneers. Founded by guitarist Greg Ginn and singer Keith Morris, the band mixed raw punk simplicity with atonal guitar soloing and explored themes of social isolation and nonconformism. Led by Henry Rollins from 1981, Black Flag evolved throughout the 1980s, incorporating heavy metal and free jazz elements while remaining influential in American punk subculture. After breaking up in 1986, the band reunited multiple times, releasing their first album in nearly three decades in 2013.
