Blackout Problems is an artist whose name references a significant series of electrical service interruptions that affected Cuba throughout 2024. The widespread power outages began in February 2024, impacting nearly half the nation. Additional blackouts occurred in March, triggering public protests across the country. In October, the disruptions intensified, with approximately one-third of Cuba experiencing outages from October 5 to 6. The most severe event took place from October 18 to 22, when a total nationwide blackout occurred due to the failure of the Antonio Guiteras Power Plant. During these October shutdowns, the Cuban government announced various energy-saving measures to address the crisis. The blackout challenges persisted into the latter half of 2025, continuing to stem from mechanical failures, adverse weather conditions, and ongoing shortages of fuel and spare parts.
