About
The Chain Gang were a punk band active since the late 1970s, operating contemporaneously with the Ramones and other NYC punk acts, though they remained outside that scene. Their history and current status remain largely mysterious, with limited documentation and scarce original records. The group released their debut seven-inch single "Son Of Sam" in 1977, which achieved limited success in the UK. Their primary album release was "Mondo Manhattan," issued by Lost Records in 1987. In 1990, Matador Records released a retrospective compilation called "Perfumed," featuring recordings from 1976 and 1977 alongside live tracks from 1988. By 1998, singer Ricky Luanda discussed the band's ongoing work in an interview published in the fanzine Forced Exposure, indicating the group was still active and working on a film adaptation of "Mondo Manhattan." The group continued their involvement with the project into at least 2006, when a trailer for the film was posted online.
