Formed in El Paso, Texas in 2008 by Greg Gonzalez, Cigarettes After Sex is an American dream pop band known for its ethereal and limerent musical style. The band's sound draws from ambient pop, shoegaze, slowcore, and indie rock influences. Their lyrics frequently explore themes of love and romance, while Gonzalez's androgynous voice has become a distinctive characteristic of their music. The band's debut extended play, I., released in 2012, featured "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby," which became a sleeper hit through commercial licensing. Following the 2015 single "Affection," Cigarettes After Sex released their self-titled debut studio album in 2017 to positive critical reception. Their second studio album, Cry, arrived in 2019, and a third album titled X's was released in July 2024.
