A cloakroom, also known as a coatroom or checkroom in North America, is a room where people hang their coats, cloaks, canes, umbrellas, hats, and other outerwear when entering a building. These rooms are typically found inside large buildings such as gymnasiums, schools, churches, and meeting halls. In private homes, hatstands serve a similar purpose to cloakrooms. In the United Kingdom, the term cloakroom may also refer to a lavatory.
