Concilium is a Latin word meaning "a council, a meeting." The term has been applied to numerous significant historical and religious institutions throughout Western history. Concilium Germanicum, held around 742, represents one of the first major Church synods organized in the eastern regions of the Frankish kingdoms. In ancient Rome, the Concilium Plebis served as the principal popular assembly of the Roman Republic, playing a crucial role in the Republic's governance. During the Norman period, the Magnum Concilium, or Great Council, was established as an important assembly. In modern times, the name has been adopted for Concilium, a worldwide journal dedicated to Catholic theology. Additionally, Sacrosanctum Concilium, known as the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, emerged as one of the significant constitutions produced by the Second Vatican Council, influencing Catholic practice and worship.
