Creed

A creed is a statement of shared beliefs within a community, often religious in nature, that summarizes core tenets and is also known as a confession of faith, a symbol, or a statement of faith. Many Christian denominations incorporate three principal creeds into their practice: the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed, the Apostles' Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. However, some Christian denominations do not use any of these traditional creeds. The concept of creed extends beyond Christianity to comparable belief systems in other theologies. In Islamic tradition, the term ʿaqīdah, which literally translates to "bond" or "tie," is frequently rendered as creed and serves a similar function in expressing fundamental religious convictions.
