About
Formed in New York City in 2010, Cults is an American indie pop band comprised of multi-instrumentalists Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion. The duo first gained attention following the release of their debut extended play, Cults 7", which was shared on their Bandcamp page in 2010. This early success led to a record deal with In the Name Of, an imprint of Sony Music owned by English singer Lily Allen, through which they released their self-titled debut studio album in 2011. The band achieved further recognition when their song "Bad Things" was sampled by American rapper J. Cole on his 2013 single "She Knows," earning Cults a featured artist credit. Over the following years, Cults has maintained an active recording presence, releasing four additional studio albums: Static in 2013, Offering in 2017, Host in 2020, and To the Ghosts in 2024, alongside an EP titled Motels in 2018.
