Formed in Tampa, Florida in 1987, Deicide is an American death metal band that achieved mainstream success with their 1992 album Legion. The group is the second-best-selling death metal band of the Soundscan Era. Since their 1990 debut, they have released thirteen studio albums, one live album, and two compilation albums. Their first three studio albums are considered genre classics. Deicide is known for provocative lyrical themes involving Satanism and anti-Christianity, which have generated controversy, bans, and lawsuits from various groups.
