About

David Ellefson is an American musician best known for his long tenure as bassist and backing vocalist for the heavy metal band Megadeth. He initially developed his skills as an accomplished bassist and songwriter while leading several bands through the club scene of North America's Midwest region before relocating to Los Angeles. Ellefson served as Megadeth's bassist from 1983 until their breakup in 2002, and rejoined the band from 2010 to 2021. In 2021, he co-founded the hard rock band the Lucid alongside vocalist Vinnie Dombroski of Sponge, guitarist Drew Fortier formerly of Bang Tango, and drummer Mike Heller of Fear Factory, Malignancy, and Raven. Beyond his work with Megadeth and the Lucid, Ellefson has been involved in various side projects including Temple of Brutality, F5, Killing Machine, and Metal Allegiance, and he currently serves as bassist for Metal Church.
