Formed in February 1997, DIR EN GREY is a Japanese heavy metal band currently signed to Firewall Div., a sub-division of Free-Will. The band maintains a consistent lineup featuring vocalist Kyo, guitarists Kaoru and Die, bassist Toshiya, and drummer Shinya. Throughout their career, they have released twelve full-length albums. DIR EN GREY is known for numerous stylistic changes that have made their genre difficult to categorize, though their music is generally considered a form of metal. Originally emerging as a visual kei band, the members later adopted more subtle attire while continuing to maintain a dramatic stage presence that remains central to their identity.
