Dishwalla

Dishwalla is an American alternative rock band from Santa Barbara, California. The group was formed by vocalist J.R. Richards, guitarist Rodney Browning, and keyboardist Greg Kolanek. The band's lineup was completed with the addition of bassist Scot Alexander and drummer George Pendergast. Originally performing under the names Life Talking and then Dish, the band underwent a significant change in late 1993 when they adopted their now-permanent name, Dishwalla. The name change came about due to a cease-and-desist letter that forced them to abandon their previous identity. The name Dishwalla itself derives from a Hindi term referring to a person who provides satellite TV service to a neighborhood, combining the words "dish" and "walla." Keyboardist Greg Kolanek discovered the term while reading an article in Wired magazine. The band achieved widespread recognition with their 1996 hit song "Counting Blue Cars," which remains their best-known work.
