Based in Athens, Georgia, Drive-By Truckers are an American rock band with deep roots in the South. The group was formed by Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, who met as roommates at the University of North Alabama and originally hail from The Shoals region of northern Alabama. The band also maintains connections to Richmond, Virginia. The current lineup features Cooley on lead vocals, guitar, and banjo alongside Hood on lead vocals and guitar, with Brad Morgan handling drums, Jay Gonzalez on keys, guitar, accordion, and backing vocals, and Matt Patton on bass guitar and backing vocals. Throughout the band's history, the membership has experienced several changes, though Cooley and Hood have remained as the consistent core members. The group has developed a dedicated fanbase through their extensive touring schedule, which continues to be a defining aspect of their career.
