Drop Nineteens is an American shoegaze band from Boston, Massachusetts, formed in 1990 by Boston University classmates Greg Ackell and Chris Roof. Ackell handles vocals and guitar while Roof plays drums. The band was completed by Paula Kelley on vocals and guitar, Motohiro Yasue on guitar, and Steve Zimmerman on bass. Ackell described the band as "the American outlier in a largely British scene." Originally active from 1990 to 1995, Drop Nineteens released their debut album Delaware in 1992 and experienced significant lineup changes afterward. The band split in 1995 following the release of their second album. In 2022, Ackell announced the band's reformation, leading to the release of their third album Hard Light in 2023, marking their first new material in 30 years.
