Formed in Oslo, Norway in 2014, Dwaal is a six-piece metal band that creates a dense wall of sound blending sludge, doom, and post-metal influences. Their sonic approach alternates between heavy, gloomy riffs and thundering drums paired with despairing vocals, then shifts to minimalistic, melancholic melodies, creating an atmosphere of slow motion intensity. The band self-released their debut EP "Darben" in April 2017, featuring two extended tracks of 19 and 12 minutes. Following a period of transition that included welcoming a new vocalist and synth player, Dwaal recorded their full-length debut album "Gospel of the Vile," released via Dark Essence Records on March 6, 2020. The current lineup consists of Bjørnar Kristiansen on vocals, guitarists Eigil Dragvik and Rikke Karlsen, bassist Stian Hammer, synth player Siri Vestby, and drummer Anders Johnsen, who together deliver their characteristic sonic assault that moves between aggressive and contemplative passages.
