Founded in 1998, Eagles of Death Metal is an American rock band from Palm Desert, California. The band was created by Jesse Hughes, who serves as vocalist and guitarist, and Josh Homme, who originally played drums. Despite their name suggesting otherwise, Eagles of Death Metal are not a death metal band, with the name intended as humor. In a 2003 interview, Homme described their sound as a combination of bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals. While Hughes and Homme are the only permanent members, the band features a rotating lineup of additional musicians for studio albums and live performances. Homme rarely performs at live shows due to his commitments with Queens of the Stone Age. The current touring lineup includes Hughes alongside drummer Leah Bluestein, guitarists Scott Shiflett and Rex Roulette, and bassist Jennie Vee. Hughes is recognized for his enthusiastic and engaging interaction with audiences during live performances.
