Eagles

The Eagles are a large group of birds of prey belonging to the family Accipitridae. While only the subfamily Aquilinae comprises true eagles on a genetic level, many other species are commonly referred to by this name, including the bald eagle. The term eagle carries no significant taxonomic weight and generally denotes any kind of bird of prey large enough to hunt sizeable vertebrates, typically those about 50 centimeters long or more overall. Approximately 68 species of eagles exist worldwide, with most found in Eurasia and Africa. Outside these regions, only 14 species can be found, distributed as follows: two in North America, nine in Central and South America, and three in Australia. Eagles do not constitute a natural group but rather represent a diverse collection of large predatory birds unified primarily by their hunting capabilities and size rather than strict biological classification.
