Formed in Tyler, Texas in 2000, Element Eighty is an American nu metal band that draws inspiration from both musical and scientific sources. The band's name originated from singer David Galloway's creative process during a ninth-grade physics class, where he was writing song lyrics and seeking the perfect band name. Remembering that Metallica had derived their name from the periodic table, Galloway decided to research the heaviest metal on the periodic table and discovered it was mercury, the 80th element. This discovery directly inspired the band's distinctive name. Element Eighty initially disbanded in 2006 but reunited just a few months later in 2007, allowing the band to continue their musical career and connection with their fanbase.
