Jose Luis "J.L." Rey Sanchez, known professionally as Phlegeton, is a Spanish death metal musician, audio producer, and visual artist based in Madrid. Born in 1979, he is best known as the vocalist for the technical brutal death metal band Wormed, which was founded in 1998 and has been his primary musical focus since joining the group. Throughout his career, Phlegeton has created various bands and musical projects while maintaining his role in Wormed. Beyond his work as a vocalist, he has gained recognition for his artistic contributions to album covers, particularly within the death metal genre. His stage name draws inspiration from Greek mythology, specifically referencing the river Phlegethon, one of the five rivers said to exist in the infernal regions of the underworld, with the name translating to "flaming" in English.
