Mark Andrew "Barney" Greenway is a British extreme metal vocalist born on 13 July 1969. He serves as the lead singer and primary lyricist of Napalm Death and was formerly a member of Extreme Noise Terror and Benediction. According to Graham Hartmann of Loudwire, Greenway's distinctive vocal style has been described as "primordial swamp-thing barking" and is considered one of extreme metal's most distinct and imposing voices. Greenway's nickname "Barney" originated from his drinking days, when he would bump into things after becoming intoxicated. His friend Stick, who drummed for Doom, initially called him "Rubble" based on this behavior, which evolved into "Barney Rubble" and eventually shortened to simply "Barney".
