Based in New Orleans, Louisiana, Exhorder is an American heavy metal band credited as a progenitor of the groove-oriented thrash sound that would later be popularized by bands such as Pantera and Machine Head. The group's music has been recognized as an important influence on the New Orleans metal scene. Exhorder was initially active from 1985 to 1994 before disbanding, then reunited for a brief period from 2008 to 2011. The band reformed once again in 2017 and has continued recording since then. Throughout their career, Exhorder has released four studio albums: Slaughter in the Vatican in 1990, The Law in 1992, Mourn the Southern Skies in 2019, and Defectum Omnium in 2024.
