Monica Morell, born Monica Wirz-Römer on August 6, 1953, in Menziken, Switzerland, was a Swiss singer who achieved significant success in Germany during the 1970s. She recorded a string of hits throughout the decade, with her biggest commercial success coming in 1973 with the song "Ich fange nie mehr was an einem Sonntag an," which sold 1.5 million copies. The song featured a reference to a boy named Tommy who had died. A poignant coincidence occurred ten years later when Morell's own son, also named Tommy, died. By the end of the 1970s, Morell had stepped away from the music industry. She passed away on February 12, 2008, in Zurich, Switzerland, at the age of 54, succumbing to cancer.
