Finntroll is a Finnish folk metal band from Helsinki that blends black metal and death metal with humppa, a traditional type of Finnish folk music. The band primarily sings in Swedish, a choice made by original vocalist Katla, who belonged to a Swedish-speaking minority in Finland. Katla felt the Swedish language better complemented the band's distinctive "trollish" aesthetic. With the exception of "Madon Laulu" from the album Visor om slutet, this Swedish-language tradition has remained consistent throughout the band's history despite multiple vocalist changes. The band's body of work encompasses seven full-length studio albums, one live album, and three extended plays. Their most recent studio album, Vredesvävd, was released in 2020.
