Dr. Fu Manchu is a supervillain character introduced in a series of novels by English author Sax Rohmer beginning shortly before World War I. The character remained featured in Rohmer's works for another forty years following the initial introduction. Over the course of more than a century, Dr. Fu Manchu has appeared across multiple media formats including cinema, television, radio, comic strips, and comic books. The character has become an archetype representing the evil criminal genius and mad scientist in popular culture. Additionally, the character's name has been lent to the Fu Manchu moustache, a distinctive facial hair style that bears his name.
