The name derives from Old French franc encens, meaning high-quality incense. Several species of Boswellia produce frankincense, including Boswellia sacra, B. frereana, B. serrata, and B. papyrifera. The resin from each species is available in various grades, with quality determined by the harvest time. Each batch undergoes careful hand-sorting to ensure only the finest resin is selected for use.
