GOST refers to a set of international technical standards maintained by the Euro-Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification, a regional standards organization operating under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The standards encompass a wide range of regulated specifications, including charting rules for design documentation as well as recipes and nutritional facts for various products. Many of the standards originally developed for Soviet-era brand names have become generic over time, though products bearing these names may only be sold under that label if they adhere to the technical standard, or they must be renamed if reformulated.
