About
Formed in 2014 by Scottish musician James McBain, Hellripper is a one-man black and speed metal band. The project draws inspiration from a diverse range of metal and punk influences, including black metal pioneers Venom and Darkthrone, thrash metal legends Megadeth and Metallica, as well as the pioneering heavy metal and punk sounds of Motörhead and Anti-Cimex, along with Sabbat. Lyrically, Hellripper explores themes centered on witchcraft, the occult, and Satanic imagery. The band's songwriting occasionally incorporates historical events and narratives, such as the possession of Anneliese Michel, which inspired the track "Anneliese," and the Affair of the Poisons, which provided the subject matter for another song of the same name.
