Founded in 1961, the Hootenanny Singers are a folk group from Västervik, Sweden. The group's lineup included Björn Ulvaeus, Johan Karlberg, Tonny Rooth, and Hansi Schwarz. Ulvaeus would go on to become a member of the internationally acclaimed band ABBA. Johan Karlberg was born on April 14, 1943, in Vimmerby, Sweden, and passed away on August 16, 1992, in Västervik. Tonny Rooth was born on November 30, 1943, in Västervik. Hansi Schwarz was born on March 16, 1942, in Munich, Germany, and died on January 10, 2013, in Lund, Sweden. For their United States release in 1966, the group was credited as "The Northern Lights" on an LP that reached American audiences.
