About
The Hundred-Year-Old Man is based on a 2013 internationally co-produced comedy film directed by Felix Herngren. The film was adapted from the 2009 novel of the same name by Jonas Jonasson and was screened in the Berlinale Special Gala section of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. Released in more than 40 countries, the film achieved significant commercial success, grossing more than US$50 million and becoming the third highest-grossing Swedish film of all time, surpassed only by The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire. The film received recognition at major award ceremonies, earning a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 88th Academy Awards. The success of the original film led to a sequel titled The 101-Year-Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared, which was released in 2016.
