Jota Quest is a Brazilian pop rock band founded in 1993 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Originally called J. Quest, the band renamed themselves Jota Quest due to trademark issues with Hanna-Barbera, with "jota" being the Portuguese name for the letter j. The band consists of Rogério Flausino on vocals, Marco Túlio Lara on guitar, Márcio Buzelin on keyboards, PJ on bass, and Paulinho Fonseca on drums. Initially setting themselves apart from Minas Gerais' musical tradition, Jota Quest achieved national success with their pop rock and blue-eyed soul-tinged pop sound. Over time, the band drew from Clube da Esquina influences, collaborating with notable Minas Gerais artists including Paulinho Pedra Azul and Milton Nascimento on the album Oxigenio. They also performed jams with 14 Bis and collaborated with Roberto Carlos on his hit single "Alem do Horizonte." The band's commercial success has been substantial, selling over 4,000,000 copies across Brazil, Latin America, and Portugal.
