Kalandra

Kalandra is a small town located on Kassandra, the westernmost peninsula of Chalkidiki in Greece. In ancient times, the site was home to the town of Mende, which was established as one of several colonies in Chalkidiki founded by Chalcis, the primary city on the island of Euboia. The ancient town of Mende held significant historical importance as the birthplace of the renowned sculptor Paeionius, also known as Paionios. This accomplished artist created a statue of Nike that was placed atop the victory pillar in Olympia and is now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Olympia. The area was also notable for its temple dedicated to Poseidon, reflecting the religious and cultural significance of the region in ancient Greece.
