About
Matthew David Cameron is an American drummer and songwriter from San Diego, California, best known for his work with the Seattle-based rock bands Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. He joined Soundgarden in 1986 and appeared on each of the band's studio albums before the group's initial breakup in 1997. Cameron then joined Pearl Jam in 1998 and remained a member until announcing his departure in July 2025. Following Soundgarden's reunion in 2010, he was simultaneously a member of both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden until the latter's second breakup in 2017 following the death of lead singer Chris Cornell. Beyond his work with these major bands, Cameron was a member of Temple of the Dog alongside fellow Soundgarden and Pearl Jam bandmates, and has served as drummer for the side projects Nighttime Boogie Association, Hater, and Wellwater Conspiracy, also acting as lead singer for the latter. Prior to joining Soundgarden, he was a member of the Seattle rock bands Bam Bam and Skin Yard.
