About
Mausoleum refers to an external free-standing building or standalone structure constructed as a monument that encloses the burial chamber of a deceased person or people. The term comes from the plural form mausolea. A mausoleum without the actual remains of the person is known as a cenotaph. In architectural and burial contexts, a mausoleum may be considered a type of tomb, or alternatively, the tomb itself may be considered to exist within the mausoleum structure.
