Megadeth is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1983 by Dave Mustaine. As one of the "big four" of American thrash metal alongside Slayer, Anthrax, and Metallica, they are credited with helping develop and popularize the genre. Known for technically complex guitar work and intricate arrangements, Megadeth released platinum-selling albums including Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction. Despite frequent lineup changes throughout their 43-year career, Mustaine remained the sole consistent member. After their final studio album in 2026 reached number one on the Billboard 200, Mustaine announced the band will disband following their supporting tour.
