Formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington, Melvins are an American rock band whose early work proved instrumental in shaping both grunge and sludge metal. The band has primarily operated as a trio throughout their career, though they have also performed as a quartet with configurations featuring either two drummers or two bassists. Since 1984, the group has maintained consistency with vocalist and guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover as constant members, establishing a stable foundation for their evolving sound and long-term creative output.
