MJT + 3 was a jazz group that recorded from 1959 to 1960, led by Frank R. Strozier Jr., a jazz alto saxophonist, occasional flutist and composer born June 13, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee. Strozier initially learned to play piano before developing his skills on saxophone. In 1954, he relocated to Chicago, where he performed alongside fellow Memphis natives Harold Mabern, George Coleman, and Booker Little. Following his work with MJT + 3, Strozier led recording sessions for Vee-Jay Records. His career subsequently took him to New York, where he briefly joined the Miles Davis Quintet in 1963 and performed with Roy Haynes. Later moving to Los Angeles, he collaborated with notable musicians including Chet Baker, Shelly Manne, and the Don Ellis big band. Returning to New York in 1971, Strozier worked with Keno Duke's Jazz Contemporaries, the New York Jazz Repertory Company, Horace Parlan, and Woody Shaw throughout his career.
