Murphy's Law

Murphy's Law is an adage stating "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong." Coined by American aerospace engineer Edward A. Murphy Jr., the law originated from a mishap during rocket sled tests between 1948 and 1949, then popularized by testing project head John Stapp. Murphy's original quote offered precautionary design advice about avoiding catastrophic outcomes. The law gained widespread public knowledge following Arthur Bloch's 1977 book Murphy's Law, and Other Reasons Why Things Go WRONG. Though it remains popular, academics have disputed its accuracy.
