Profanatica is a black metal band that originated in New York before relocating to Connecticut. As one of the first black metal bands from the United States, they emerged alongside Von, which formed in 1987. The band is recognized as among the major American black metal acts to have surfaced early during the second wave of black metal. Under the direction of Paul Ledney, Profanatica has maintained a distinctive artistic approach by placing profound emphasis on blasphemous themes throughout their musical catalog.
