Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago formed in 1999. The group features vocalist Tim McIlrath, lead guitarist Zach Blair, bassist Joe Principe, and drummer Brandon Barnes. Known for melodic, aggressive punk rock with rapid tempos, the band's lyrics emphasize social commentary on politics, animal rights, humanitarianism, and environmentalism. After early success on independent label Fat Wreck Chords, they achieved mainstream recognition with their 2004 major label debut Siren Song of the Counter Culture. Subsequent albums including Appeal to Reason, Endgame, The Black Market, and Wolves achieved significant commercial success and high Billboard 200 chart positions.
