Formed by childhood friends Mike Sullivan and Dave Turncrantz, Russian Circles is an American instrumental post-metal band based in Chicago, Illinois. The duo began their musical journey after their previous projects came to an end. The band's lineup was completed in 2007 when Brian Cook joined as bassist, following the departure of original bass player Colin DeKuiper. Russian Circles has achieved significant recognition throughout their career, built on a foundation of critically acclaimed albums and rigorous international touring schedules. The band's name originates from a drill exercise commonly used in ice hockey, a sport that both Sullivan and Turncrantz played growing up in their hometown of St. Louis.
