Saor

About

Saor is a one-man metal band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in 2012 by Andy Marshall. The name means "Free" in Scottish and Irish Gaelic. The project blends atmospheric black metal and post-rock with Scottish folk music influences, incorporating traditional Celtic instruments like tin whistle, bagpipes, and bodhrán alongside heavy metal elements. Lyrically, Saor explores Scottish heritage, Highland landscapes, and themes of sorrow, drawing inspiration from a deep connection to Scottish culture and history. Some lyrics are adapted from works by renowned Scottish poets, while others are original compositions. The band is currently signed to Northern Silence Productions, a German record label. Saor's discography includes Roots, released in 2013 and reissued in 2014, Aura from 2014, Guardians from 2016, Forgotten Paths from 2019, and Origins from 2022.
