About
Formed in Oslo in 1991, Satyricon is a Norwegian black metal band that has maintained remarkable stability through its core members Satyr and Frost, who joined in 1993 and became the band's only official members since 1997. The band's first three albums are characterized by the distinctive sound of Norwegian black metal, establishing them as part of the pioneering wave of the genre. Beginning with their fourth album in 1999, Satyricon evolved their musical direction by incorporating elements of traditional heavy metal into their compositions. This evolution marked a significant shift from their earlier work while maintaining their identity within the metal community. The band also achieved a notable distinction by becoming the first Norwegian black metal band to sign with a multi-national record label, partnering with EMI and helping to bring Norwegian black metal to a broader international audience.
