Serial Butcher is a character from the 2024 American thriller film Trap, produced, written, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The character, whose real name is Cooper Abbott, is a serial killer portrayed by Josh Hartnett. In the film, Cooper Abbott attends a concert with his teenage daughter Riley, unaware that the event has been intercepted by police who have been tipped off to his presence. The cast also includes Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Night, Hayley Mills, and Alison Pill. Trap was shot in Canada in late 2023 and premiered in New York City on July 24, 2024, before its theatrical release in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on August 2, 2024. The film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed 83 million dollars against a production budget of 30 million dollars.
